"Thank you- The NIISWA team saved my life"

(as the patient),

I arrived at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital by ambulance and was met by my neurosurgeon, Anthony. He calmly and clearly explained the procedure and risks involved in treating my brain aneurysm, even drawing a diagram to help me understand. His reassurance helped ease what was an incredibly frightening situation.

Before surgery, I was cared for in the High Dependency Neuro Unit, where the nursing staff monitored me closely and provided excellent care. Following the procedure, I was informed that the aneurysm had been successfully coiled. Although I experienced temporary vision issues in my right eye, I was reassured this would improve with time.

During my stay, I was supported by many wonderful nurses. While I cannot recall every name, I would like to especially thank Charlotte, Tracy, Millie, and Misty for their kindness, compassion, and professionalism. They supported me not only physically through pain management, but also emotionally as I processed the shock and trauma of my experience.

Eight weeks on, my recovery is progressing well and my vision is gradually returning. I am incredibly grateful to the neurology team, especially Dr Anton, for the care I received. I truly believe this hospital saved my life.

I feel very fortunate to have access to such world-class care here in Western Australia. Thank you to everyone involved in my treatment and recovery.
