About: Royal Perth Hospital / End of Life (Palliative) Care

(as a relative),

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Jackie from Ward 10 for the incredible care she gave my nana, Mary, while she was in palliative care.

Jackie was Nana’s nurse at first, and even after her patient allocation changed the next day, she still made the time to come and check on her before her shift started and again after it had finished. She was always there if we needed anything and never made us feel like we were asking too much, even though Nana was no longer in her care.

She also looked after my grandad in such a thoughtful way. She made sure he had something to eat and checked in on him, knowing he wasn’t thinking about himself while sitting beside his wife. It was such a small gesture, but it meant so much to our family.

The kindness, compassion and genuine care Jackie showed during one of the hardest times of our lives is something we’ll never forget. She made Nana comfortable, treated her with so much dignity and respect and gave our whole family comfort when we needed it most.

I think Jackie is an amazing nurse and a real credit to Ward 10. We are so grateful for everything she did for Nana and for us.

Dear dracoyk45,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a heartfelt tribute about the care your nana received while on Ward 10 at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH). We are deeply sorry for your loss and grateful that, during such a difficult time, Jackie was able to provide comfort and support to your nana, your grandad, and your family.

It is incredibly meaningful to hear how Jackie continued to check on your nana even after her patient allocation changed, and how her kindness, compassion and dedication extended beyond her immediate responsibilities. The thoughtful care she showed to your grandad, ensuring he was supported while remaining by his wife's side, is a wonderful example of the holistic and person-centred care we strive to provide.

Your words beautifully reflect the dignity, respect and comfort Jackie brought to your nana's care and the positive impact she had on your family during one of life's most challenging moments. We know that such acts of genuine compassion can make a lasting difference, and we are delighted that Jackie was able to provide this support when it was needed most.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and for recognising Jackie's exceptional care. Please be assured that your kind words will be shared with Jackie, the Ward 10 team, and the leadership of the End of Life (Palliative) Care service. We know they will be greatly appreciated and serve as a reminder of the profound difference compassionate care can make to patients and families.

On behalf of everyone at RPH, we extend our sincere condolences to you and your family, and thank you for taking the time to acknowledge Jackie's outstanding care.

Kind Regards,

Ben Noteboom
