"Hospital Care"

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I would like to thank the emergency department team at Armadale hospital. From 1pm onwards they were attentive and did what they could. I think Collette is a fantastic caring and supportive nurse, the doctors on visit I saw were ok. I feel the communication and promises of tests lapsed. As I was not screaming in pain nor making a scene I don’t feel I was taken seriously.

I was admitted into short stay which was fine. Taken to a room with several beds left on a bed no blanket no steps on what was happening. Hour or so later someone finally checked on me. I got a blanket. From then until 230pm the next day I was checked on minimal. Giving pain killers promised scans I had to follow up on. No communication as to what’s happening , steps to take.

As I had scans booked in a fortnight I had to push for anything to be done. I’m not sure what the normal protocol is for checking on patients but I don’t feel hours a patient should be left with minimal communication.

To wake on the morning and hear two nurses waiting for shift change over gossiping and discussing patients personal information loudly was purely shocking. Discussing working agency work and the cost they would be paid.

I am actually disappointed with the care I received in short stay. I felt questioned repeatedly on my symptoms.

Dear thubanyg48

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

It is lovely to hear that you felt well cared for by the Emergency Department team, particularly Collette. I will ensure your kind words are passed on.

I am sorry to learn that your experience in the Short Stay Unit did not meet your expectations. I was concerned to read your comments regarding communication about your care, feeling that your concerns were not taken seriously, extended periods without staff checking on you, and conversations you overheard that appeared to relate to patient information.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform, we are unable to contact you directly. We would welcome the opportunity to review and investigate the concerns you have raised, so I kindly encourage you to contact the Consumer Liaison Service on 9391153 or AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au so that these matters can be appropriately addressed.

Kind regards

Sarah-Louise Laing
