"My experience with Joondalup mental health!"

About: Mental Health Observation Area

(as a service user),

The rooms are lovely, feels like a hotel but very lacking in good outside space. I actually preferred another hospital for the outside space it’s so good for mental health to have big outside areas and trees. I think it would be horrible in summer.

Very nice having lots of groups to chose from, can use the gym if you are so inclined.

The lady who ran the morning groups from OT was so lovely…Lisa the fisio wonderful. Nurses Donna (Scottish lady??), Hanna (wore love hearts) both so very lovely always made time for you. Not just rush to do medicine and blood pressure and paperwork. Also the boss nurse man on Night shifts and Kye very kind and funny.

The psychiatrist always seems rushed, never told me days or times they would review. Just had to wait wait wait. Feel like a pest asking for things.

Also on open ward but had to be given “leave” by psychiatrist and they gave nothing the first week or two unless I smoked. In my opinion, not fair to seemingly discriminate like this…

On smoking…all the patients stand out the front and smoke. Not nice.

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to share detailed feedback about your experience with us. We appreciate you sharing both the positive aspects of your stay and the areas where you feel we could improve.

We are happy to hear that you found the rooms comfortable and enjoyed the range of groups and facilities available. It is great to know that the staff who facilitated the morning groups made such a positive difference to your experience. We will ensure your kind words are shared with them and their managers.

We also acknowledge the concerns you have raised regarding the availability of outdoor spaces, communication around psychiatric reviews, leave arrangements, and the smoking environment. We understand how these aspects can impact a person's experience and recovery, and we appreciate you bringing them to our attention.

We would be more than happy to further discuss your concerns with if you would like to be in contact with the Consumer Liaison department at consumerliaison.jhc@ramsayhealth.com.au

Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Kind regards,

David Dineen
