"My Grandpa, and the lotus room"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Palliative Care Unit

(as a relative),

I want to thank the staff at Sir Charles Gairdner hospital. On the 2nd of August 2026, my grandpa passed away due to stage 4 Lung cancer and during that time my family and i visited my grandpa, he  was admitted to the Lotus room at Sir Charles Gairdner hospital in Perth. 

In the hospital i got to talk to my grandpa, giving my thanks to him as it was his final breath and we called a pastor within a community where we prayed and just quietly mourned there. One of my aunties recently gave birth to a baby boy where he was born with 2 holes in his heart, and the staff brought him in the room, it was  beautiful because it was the last of his generation that he would see.

I would like to thank the staff who could let this moment happen as it was a calming moment as we could just pour out our feelings to our grandpa, the staff were helpful, polite and kind-hearted, I am so proud because that my grandpa was still holding on strong while fighting cancer. Thank you to the staff of Sir Charles Gairdner hospital as they are great people.

It's me again, I just wanted to let anyone whos reading this to know that my grandpa's funeral was on the 8/08/2026 and during that time I really miss him, my mum was really stressed, everyone moved on except me. I really didnt understand why the staff couldn't find an alternative treatment in time, my grandpa was allergic to his old one, but im just happy that the staff could do their best.

Even if my grandpa is gone, he's resting easy now.

It is deeply touching to hear about the special moments you were able to share with your grandfather, including spending time together as a family and the opportunity for him to see his great-grandson. I appreciate how meaningful these moments were, and I am pleased that our staff could help create an environment where your family could be together, reflect, and say your goodbyes in a way that was important to you.
