"ACL surgery"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as the patient),

I was put on catagory 2 semi urgent surgery for my acl that I was to get within 90 day , I got a date that was then cancelled and when I went into my new date I was out on a hospital bed from 8.30 in the morning until 5 in the evening and also fasting from 7 the night before for a doctor to come out at 5 to just cancel my surgery on the spot after being left there all day not getting told a thing.

Dear scoreboardjd74,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience whilst waiting for surgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. I am very sorry to hear about the disappointment, frustration and uncertainty you experienced regarding your planned ACL surgery.

I can appreciate how upsetting it must have been to have your original surgery date cancelled and then, after preparing for your rescheduled procedure, spending the entire day in hospital while fasting, only to learn late in the afternoon that your surgery would not be going ahead. This would have been an extremely difficult and distressing experience, and I acknowledge the significant impact this has had on you.

I also understand how important clear and timely communication is when patients are preparing for surgery. Not knowing what was happening throughout the day would have added to your frustration and anxiety, and I am sorry that you felt unsupported and insufficiently informed during this process. This is not the experience we strive to provide for our patients.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. Please be assured that your feedback will be shared with the relevant surgical and perioperative teams so that we can review what occurred and identify opportunities to improve communication with patients when unexpected changes to operating schedules arise.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. Patient feedback is invaluable in helping us improve the care we provide. I sincerely hope that your surgery can be rescheduled as soon as possible, and I wish you all the very best for your treatment and recovery.

Warm regards,

Renee de Prazer

A/Executive Director, SCGOPHCG
