"Poor paediatrician care"

My baby at 7 weeks old started vomiting blood so we presented to ED they got diagnosed with a Mallory Weiss tear. From here my baby's vomiting ramped up tenfold. 4 days later we presented again due to my baby being lethargic and excessive vomiting. We were given an incorrect dosage script of omeprazol and sent home to see the paediatrician.

The following week comes around and I haven’t heard anything so I call the consulting suites only to be told the registrar in ED never sent a referral. With how bad my baby was I reached out to our MCHN who was away but another one called me and I told them what was going on. They then rang the on call paediatrician who told the MCHHN that it would be no point seeing them as they won’t be changing anything or doing anything for my baby. We did virtual ed that night as my baby had thrown up around 20 times that day. They advised presenting to ED would be a good idea but knowing the previous pediatrician was on call I managed at home and took my baby to the GP the following day.

The GP was horrified but were at their limits so done a referral to another hospital's paediatricians but there is an extensive wait to see them. Over the next 2 weeks my baby continued to go downhill to the point they were vomiting 40+ times a day with majority being projectile. My baby's episodes come in waves so they’ll be really bad for a couple days then settle for a couple and ramp up again. At the 3 week post first presentation I text our MCHN begging for help after a horrific weekend with my baby. When They were in a couple of days later they were so concerned they organised with the paediatric registrar to have my baby admitted that day and a heap of tests done as nothing had yet been done.

Two other clinicians were amazing, so thorough and wanting to help our baby. It was just unfortunate we were admitted during our baby's “good days” so a full picture of how bad they become wasn’t painted.

On the following morning a different Dr was on who walked into our room, told me my baby was fine, said my baby's symptoms aren’t bad and there’s no point being in hospital when they're fine and to go home. Feeling defeated we went home. The following day we had another peak in my baby's condition and they spent the whole day projectile vomiting.

We’re day 4 of projectile vomits and large pools of vomit 20-40 times a day now. But there’s nothing wrong with my child. It’s incredibly disheartening as a new parent to be seemingly dismissed and treated so disgracefully by a medical professional.

It’s so bad we are now being admitted to a different hospital for help. Based on my experience, this Dr has absolutely destroyed my faith in certain staff in Sale. The other doctor at least listened and was trying to catch a peak episode before sending us on our way and they never once said our baby's fine because you could tell our baby was miserable and struggling. Based on my experience, I will never trust the paediatricians in sale again thanks to this Dr. In my opinion, they need some serious retraining and some extreme education on bedside manner!
