"ENT appointment cancelled without notification"

About: Broome Health Campus / Specialist Outpatients

(as a service user),

I was called by the Broome hospital specialist centre who called me to schedule an ENT appointment. I had to take leave from work to make this appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, I was informed that my appointment was cancelled the day it was booked and I was not informed. This means that I had taken leave to leave work early and had gone to the hospital for no reason at all. I was frustrated and had asked for a replacement appointment but was told the ENT specialist was leaving the next day so I would not be able to see them until their next visit.

I was not contacted for a follow up appointment, as I was told I would be, and the only way I managed to get a follow up appointment was to call the hospital as I had heard the ENT specialists were in town in July and had to request to be put on the waiting list for that visit that same week. I was then booked in for July. I found the person i spoke to on the phone to book this appointment was extremely rude to me when I was requesting this appointment, as if i was inconveniencing them trying to get an appointment for my own health

The whole experience was very frustrating and much of my time was wasted and I felt very mistreated throughout the whole experience

Dear pyxisxz46,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologise for the frustration and inconvenience you experienced with the management of your ENT appointments.

We understand how disappointing it would have been to take leave from work and attend the hospital, only to discover that your appointment had been cancelled without any notification. We also acknowledge your concerns regarding the lack of follow-up for a replacement appointment and the difficulty you experienced in obtaining another booking. In addition, we are sorry to hear that you felt you were not treated with courtesy and respect when contacting the hospital.

Your feedback is important to us and has been forwarded for review to help improve our appointment booking and communication processes. We regret that your experience did not meet the standard of service you should expect.

If you are willing, please contact the West Kimberley Outpatient Manager via email at wk.outpatientmanager@health.wa.gov.au and include your name, date of birth and contact details to allow us to review your concerns thoroughly and discuss them with you directly.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Kind regards,

Millie Stewart

A/District Director – West Kimberley
