"My first time giving birth"

Our journey started in March 2025 when we self referred at FBC. We were happily surprised when we heard back about 2 weeks later and found out we’d been accepted! We had heard that it could be hard to get in so we felt very lucky.

ABOUT OUR MIDWIFE

We met out assigned midwife Vicky and loved her work ethics and philosophy about birth. So much so that we hope we can have her again for the next baby! She is so supportive, gentle and will advocate on your behalf when needed.

As I went past 42 weeks, I actually wasn’t able to give birth at FBC as planned so was transferred to KEMH where Vicky was present during my whole active labour that lasted about 12 hours. She was our voice, support person and sounding board. She championed for our preferences by relaying all we had previously discussed and made sure the hospital staff was informed. She listened to us whenever we had concerns and always supported our decisions and was all in all the perfect midwife for us.

We’d also like to give a shout-out to Yumi, Vicky’s midwife buddy who was fantastic, along with the other midwifes who assisted on some visits.

ABOUT KEMH’S NURSES AND DOCTORS

I was nervous about being transferred and not getting the birth that I had planned but the beautiful staff who cared for us for the 2 days I was in labour put us at ease and made us feel very comfortable. I got induced on the Saturday morning but didn’t dilate enough until past 9pm on the Sunday night. All the medical staff checking on us and administering the induction was so nice and the delivering doctor Di and her team we absolutely amazing - so patient with a super calm front, professional but caring at the same time. We really couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Our beautiful baby girl was born healthy after an episiotomy and vacuum and is now an adorable 7 months old.
