Recently, my son and I were admitted through the Emergency Department and onto the Paediatric Ward. My story is perhaps a little different, as I am also a staff member who has worked at the hospital for most of my career.
In my daily work, I already know how incredible my colleagues are, but experiencing their care firsthand, this time as a mum, was truly something special.
Every face-to-face interaction and every aspect of the direct care my son received was brilliant. But what impressed me most were the unspoken moments — watching my colleagues continually go above and beyond, even in incredibly busy and challenging circumstances.
Because I understood their workload and the situations they were navigating perhaps more than most, it made it even more impressive to watch the way they carried themselves with such care, professionalism and genuine joy.
They advocated not only for my son, but for every patient around us. They worked together seamlessly as a team to provide timely, compassionate and incredibly effective patient care.
I have always been proud to work alongside these people, but experiencing their care from the other side gave me an entirely new appreciation for just how special they are.
Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my son — and for making a worried mum feel like he was in the very best hands. ❤️
"Amazing care"
