"ED treatment of stroke"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My parent had gone into ED for scans after losing site in right eye.  This was on Fri. My parent was sent home that evening after CT scan with a referral for an MRI.  When I spoke to my parent the next day, they did not know if they had to make the appointment themself, and had double vision, and had been told to use an eye patch.

I have extended experience working in neurology including stroke care.  I was not contacted my sibling was next next of kin, but on holiday at present.  When I visited my parent the next day at home, they had questions about what had happened, and what to do about the MRI.

I contacted Bendigo Health and ended up emailing the referral.  This is something that I believe should have been arranged by the hospital.  Yes, some stroke pts are still walking, however, on checking on my parent this morning, they are only able to do short things at a time.  My parents are on a farm, and have no outside care other than me, and my sibling.

I am also aware that her next medical appointment is with a GP, as per ED instructions.  Yes, my parent is on a blood thinner, but there are other causes of strokes that enter in.  My question is, why did you let a person with a diagnosed stroke, leave the hospital after being told, one of their children is a nurse.

When I was explainging what had happened, they were grateful, as they felt they did not understand what was being told to them at the hospital ED.  I am recovering from being quite unwell, and am now having to organise medical care for my parent, because nothing has been set.  And today, my parent is tired, and only able to do little.
