Less than a week ago, I as a first time Mother was lucky enough to give birth at JHC under the public service.
Despite having a low risk birth and relatively easy/straight forward initial labour, when it came time to give birth my babies heart rate began to drop, resulting in some outstanding care for myself, my baby and even my husband by the staff present, while still allowing for a VBAC and the safe arrival of my baby boy. I do not know if a VBAC would have been possible due to the circumstances without the support of staff and their genuine care towards us all and without the coaching, care and encouragement by my main midwife.
I wanted to write in to highlight most of all the outstanding care delivered by my main midwife, Stacia, during both labour and birth. From initial introductions till the completion of my birth, Stacia offered unwavering empathy, support and guidance to both myself and my husband.
She answered any and all questions of ours while being respectful and tentative and made sure to supply any information that may be useful to us as first time parents, including taking the time to talk through my birth experience with me at the end of her shift when her colleagues were going home, so as to offer support and ensure I did not feel I had unanswered questions that may potentially lead to trauma associated with my birth story. She is truly one in a million and represented the JHC and its values in every positive way possible, while genuinely caring about my experience and my mental wellbeing.
I feel that Stacia was a big advocate and support person for us in what was inevitably one of the biggest experiences a person will ever go through. I am incredibly thankful to her and feel lucky that she was assigned to my room as she made the experience truly beautiful despite the challenges we faced. Her positive attitude, bubbly nature and professionalism shone through throughout and put me at ease during the most pivotal moment of my life.
I will never forget the kindness she extended to us and hope that she knows how truly appreciated she is. I do not know if there are any accolades available for outstanding care providers but if there are, I would urge you to consider Stacia for such an award, not because she would want it, but because she truly deserves recognition for her work and to be an example to all.
Stacia, there are no words big enough to say thank you to you for what you did for us. You are the epitome of a midwife and I am grateful we crossed paths. Thank you a million times.
