My wife and I are on holiday in Australia from New Zealand. As we had just crossed the Nullarbor, I was feeling more and more dizzy, hot and cold having kidney pain and difficulty urinating. We called in at Norseman Hospital in the morning.
Priscilla the ED nurse and Mindy the Doctors’ office manager listened to my case and put me through to see Dr Graham at Norseman Hospital.
The Doctor gave me his full attention and concern doing several tests on my urine while the practice nurses did blood tests.
I was prescribed with painkillers and a ‘bomb’ antibiotic and given a CT referral and request for blood and urine testing follow up to Esperance Hospital. Esperance was our next destination.
I was accepted into Esperance Hospital on my arrival thanks to communication between Mindy from Norseman and Deb (Esperance Hospital admissions officer ) and admitted immediately. CT scanning took over an hour and later the technician and one of the Urologists spoke to me about what the images showed. They described a small stage 1 mass on my left kidney that had been discovered worthy of future CT biopsy. I was given a room and took on 3 units of saline and antibiotics via canula.
The medical staff involved in the imaging advised me that this needed attention within the next 6 weeks, so we made the decision right then to shorten our holiday and return home to NZ by 10 September. I felt confident in Dr Graham and the Esperance Hospital staff to make this decision.
"Great response from staff and Doctor in Norseman and Esperance"
