I sent this to the Quality Team but feel it needs to be here too.
I am not from the region.
I had an infected/poisoned finger which got worse late in the evening when I was staying in Inverloch.
I was unsure how to get to the emergency department and Sue on reception was kind enough to take my call so late (around midnight or so) to help direct me in my moment of concern and worry, she was so calm, understanding and patient (given again I am from out of the area) and was completely unfamiliar with the Wonthaggi area.
I was unable to complete the patient form due to the excruciating pain which I was very apologetic for - of which they did not worry too much as it was (somewhat) legible.
I was seen to promptly, made to feel comfortable and safe and my finger was operated on very quickly, without pain and it now looks like a finger once again (I am sure the nurses wouldn't forget this sight quickly!!!).
I also use public transport of which time the taxis/public transport system had long stopped. I wandered back in about 2am (they did offer to keep me in the hospital out of the cold but I felt bad that I was holding them up) and went for a walk.
Then when I returned - they had no hesitation to offer me a blanket, a cup of tea and a comfortable seat until the time came to head back to Inverloch.
I left around 6am with antibiotics as well - they deserve top props for being so kind, understanding, patient and overall caring that made the world of difference to me in my moment of needing honest, unwavering and kind help.
I feel terrible that I can not remember all their names now!!!
This feedback needs to be passed on to recognise these three very caring people and an excellent service.
Thank you Bass Coast Health, Wonthaggi Hospital and the three nurses who were only too kind to show real concern and care.
