"CT scan with contrast"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Medical Imaging

(as the patient),

I had a CT scan with contrast booked in for 12pm I arrived at 11:30 as required to be there for 11:45. I arrived and there was a lot of people in the waiting room. Was happy to wait didn’t mind got called back at around 1pm cannula placed. Called in to CT for them to flush my cannula and it hurt. I was placed back out in the chair for someone to come and change the location.

A staff member came tried in my other arm with no luck so changed something on my cannula and flushed it with no pain. By this time it was 1:30pm somebody else was in the CT I waiting it got to 1:45 and no one was coming for me and someone was still in the CT. I asked for the cannula to be removed as I needed to go collect my child from care. My cannula was removed and I went to the receptionist to reschedule my appointment.

The staff member was amazing and had already rescheduled me and was very apologetic about the situation and suggested I make this complaint. I understand waiting and don’t mind but two hours after and the person taken into CT was in a procedure that was going to take 30-1 hour.

Dear correspondencefz64

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent CT appointment.

I am sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration with the significant delay, particularly when you had commitments to collect your child from care. While we appreciate that delays can occasionally occur due to emergency or complex cases requiring urgent imaging, we recognise that waiting for an extended period without clear communication about expected timeframes can be upsetting and inconvenient.

I am pleased to hear that our clerical staff were supportive, apologetic and assisted you by proactively rescheduling your appointment. I am also grateful for your positive comments regarding the staff involved in your care, and I will ensure this feedback is shared with the team.

Your feedback highlights the importance of keeping patients informed when delays occur and ensuring that appointment schedules are managed as effectively as possible. We will share your comments with the Medical Imaging team to review the circumstances surrounding your appointment and reinforce the need for timely communication when unexpected delays arise.

Thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention. Patient feedback is valuable in helping us identify opportunities to improve our services and the experience of those in our care.

Kind regards

Margaret Smillie
District Director Northern Goldfields
