About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

Spent time as a carer and advocate in ED Bunbury. Reception staff were great and informative. I felt the waiting room liaison nurse was dismissive to my requests for attention while patient deteriorated in wheelchair in waiting area. The patient was soiling themself and in pain and discomfort. No observations done in an hour and waiting room was almost empty. I believe that more empathy and clinical attention was required.

Dear uniformwr45,

Thank you for providing this feedback.

I am really sorry to hear of this experience - both for you and the patient. Whilst we generally get a lot of things right in our ED, and we do receive good feedback for our care and attendance to patients, it is clear we missed an opportunity to support this patient with the care they most needed at this time.

Our ED team is invested in continuous quality improvement and will I will ask the team to reflect on this feedback with a view to ensuring patients continue to receive the level of dignity and care they need at what can be a vulnerable time for them.

Once again, thank you for sharing your experience and please know that we are invested in ensuring all patients are well engaged and supported.

Kind regards

John Brearley

Co-Director Bunbury Hospital
