In the morning of 6 May 2026 I attended an appointment at the Retina Section of the Outpatients Department of the Sydney Eye Hospital. At about 10am another patient walked up to the receptionist, Raphael, and told him they had been waiting an hour and asked what time they would be seen by the doctor. When the patient was told he could not tell them, I recall they stated that they had a lunch appointment at 11am and seemingly demanded to be seen immediately. The receptionist informed the patient that he did not have that information and I recall the patient lost their temper and abused him using vile language. The receptionist asked the patient not to swear at him whereupon their abuse and bad language became worse. I cannot commend the gentleman on reception enough. He remained polite and calm throughout this disgraceful encounter and continued attending to the patients waiting on his attention at the reception area with patience and care. I wish there were many more like him.
"Fantastic receptionist at the Sydney Eye Hospital"
