About: MHERL - Mental Health Emergency Response Line

(as a service user),

I called them recently for an update and they said some one would call me the following day......

Was a referral for the assessment and treatment team and I contact orchard Avenue centre or mherl to contact them,

Called me a couple of days later to let me know my referral has been rejected because I haven't been able to manage ADHD treatment 

They said that I would need to see a psychiatrist for my ADHD instead because they believe my problems were ADHD problems. I told them that I hadn't been able to manage psychiatrist because of cost and inability to remember appointments and steps to go through.

I am sorry to hear of your disappointment regarding the outcome of your referral. I understand that after seeking support and awaiting a response, being advised that your referral had not been accepted would have been frustrating and upsetting. I also acknowledge the difficulties you described in accessing psychiatric care, including financial barriers and challenges managing appointments.

I recognise the importance of clear, timely and compassionate communication, particularly when discussing referral outcomes. We are continuing to emphasise these principles with our staff to ensure patients feel informed, supported and respected throughout their interactions with our service.

While I am unable to comment on the specifics of your assessment, I understand that this outcome may have left you feeling unsupported. I encourage you to contact the Consumer Liaison Office on (08) 9391 1153 or email akg.consumerliaison@health.wa.gov.au, who can undertake a more detailed enquiry into the circumstances surrounding your referral.

I encourage you to please make contact with your regular General Practitioner who is best placed to provide support and referral advice.
