"Psychiatrist appointment"

About: YouthLink

(as a service user),

Have been going to youthlink for years for my mental health, have a really good therapist and been doing so much better than before. I saw the doctor who I felt basically accused me of being uneducated and stupid (because I don't want medications because they haven't helped before) and kept trying to force me to take information on medications even though I said no. They asked me awful questions about my trauma and seemingly had no respect for me when I didn't want to answer. I love youth link and they have been amazing for me but, in my opinion, this psychiatrist was horrible and I never want to see a doctor again.

Dear Frustrated Lemon

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am pleased to hear that you have a good rapport with your YouthLink therapist, and that your ongoing work with them has been helpful for you.

I am very sorry to learn that your recent experience has left you feeling unsupported, unheard and judged.

We take feedback such as yours very seriously and we are committed to improving the quality of care and consumer outcomes. Your comments have been shared with the Youthlink leadership team to reinforce expectations regarding respectful communication, trauma-informed care, and the importance of ensuring all consumers feel heard, valued, and safe when accessing our services. This includes working closely with staff to promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, collaboration, and person-centred care, with consumer experiences helping to guide and inform these improvements.

I encourage you to speak with your therapist about what has happened. They can support you to discuss your concerns with the team. If you feel that your concerns need further consideration, you are also welcome to contact the Consumer Liaison Service at MHSDHS.CLS@health.wa.gov.au or call on 9242 9612. This will give us the opportunity to better understand what occurred and ensure your concerns are appropriately considered.

Thank you again for taking time to provide feedback and I sincerely apologise that your interaction with our service did not meet the standard of care you expected and deserved.

Kind regards,

Dr Mark McAndrew
