"My fall that had me dropping my baby"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had an unfortunate fall at my church which resulted in me dropping my 6 month old boy. I was taking him outside to calm him down and had stepped on an uneven pathway, i had stepped on the uneven path with my left foot, twisted my left ankle, lost my balance and landed hard on my right knee. As i landed on my knee I somehow had let go of my son and he had fallen onto the ground pretty heavily. Something I'll never forgive myself for.

We were rushed to Karratha hospital and seen to straight away. Staff was amazing at calming myself and my husband down and reassured us that things were okay. And thanks to God that it was! My baby, even though falling from a height onto the ground, only has a few bumps and bruises! He returned to his usual cheeky cuddling self and smiling at the female staff members like nothing had ever happened. Though I have a possible fracture to my left ankle and right knee which I need to go back to Karratha hospital to be reassessed.

My doctor and nurses were so helpful, understanding and empathetic that by the end of my visit I had calmed down so much to be able to laugh instead of crying. One nurse in particular commented that my triage band was red and white and that it matched the colour of my dress and knee brace, that made me laugh and I'm thankful for that.
