"Excellent ED response to severe pain"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently I presented to Wonthaggi ED with severe, non-specific leg pain. At all times my experience was validated and promptly treated. And even though my behaviour was not ideal ( turns out I’m quite obnoxious when in pain), I was always treated with care and kindness. And every member of the ED team contributed to my good care. Porters, food staff, nurses, doctors and physios. All were friendly, professional and responsive to my needs. Special thanks to Christine for validating my experience of pain and assuring me it was recognised.

In an environment where medical misogyny is a hot topic, especially regarding women in pain, Wonthaggi ED provided unequivocally great care.

Dear firstexperienceaspatient

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Your comments highlight the impact that compassionate, person-centred care can have, particularly when someone is experiencing significant pain and uncertainty. The recognition you have given to every member of the multidisciplinary team, from porters and food services staff through to nurses, doctors and physiotherapists, reflects the truly collaborative nature of high-quality patient care.

I am especially pleased to hear that Christine's validation of your pain and experience made such a difference. Taking the time to listen, believe and respond to patients is a fundamental part of delivering safe and respectful care.

Thank you again for acknowledging the staff involved in your care, and I am pleased to hear that you received the support and treatment you needed. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Kind regards,

Kelly Decker
