I feel really discriminated against. I was meant to have surgery this morning but didn’t end up having it. I was feeling very tender about it this morning, and the surgeon had told me the other day that worst case scenario I could lose my eye.
I got there at 10am, and surgery wasn’t scheduled until 4pm. I hadn’t eaten and I’d been up since 5am since that is when I usually get up, so I was feeling tender as you can imagine. Half an hour to an hour later I went up to the desk and was trying to find a person to help, and I said excuse me, and the staff member gets their hands and gestures out at me and I recall says, “What what!”. I said to them “Hello [salutation]” because I was raised with respect. I asked if I could lie down, because the doctor had given me eye drops. That’s all I was asking, for a bed so I could lie down.
Later I spoke to a nurse and a social worker, because this I think this staff member needs to be re-trained. I have long hair, and I’m not young anymore, and I was wearing a new hat and I don’t know if it was the wrong colour hat or whatever. In my mind, I believe this staff member thought they were better than me. I’ve dealt with it before, and I’m quite a tall person. I don’t know if they thought I was bogan or something. To me this staff member needs retraining.
The lovely nurse who helped me out last time. She got me a seat to sit on, and she said she could find me a bed and she gave me your card. This staff member came in the room with what I felt was a smirk on their face as if to say, I’ll have your job. I’d like to have a conversation with someone.
