My family was very blessed to have help from a wonderful lactation consultant, Shaughn, at KEMH Breastfeeding Centre. When my baby was just under two weeks old, she wasnt gaining weight as expected. My early breastfeeding days (as a first time mother) were complicated by poor positioning leading to damaged nipples, and my baby not transferring milk very well. I was planning on introducing formula, and felt so upset about not being able to exclusively breastfeed. Within three lactation consults between the end of July and end of August (as well as additional weight checks for the weeks we didn't have a consult), Shaughn got my baby back to gaining weight as needed, exclusively breastfeeding 🥰 We were discharged from the service last week (with my baby now 8 weeks old), and I'm feeling SO much more confident in breastfeeding - and generally as a mother - now.
I looked forward to all my appointments with Shaughn - she was so warm, knowledgable and encouraging. I really believe that Shaughn/this service massively changed the trajectory of mine and my baby's breastfeeding journey, and I'm hugely grateful. I wish every family facing similar difficulties would be able to access such high quality support 🩷
