My child presented to ED Warren Health Campus stating possible snake bite, with a very sore, red swollen ankle with two puncture marks on it.
They were seen at reception straight away, then Nurse Practitioner took them to the treatment room 20 minutes later.
The nurse looked at their ankle and said that can’t be a snake bite, you have no symptoms.
I’ll get the doctor to look at it but they've just left and I don’t know when they’ll be back.
The nurse then showed my child back out to the waiting room, they waited 30-45 minutes then left as nobody kept them informed or checked on them.
My child then went to ED in Bunbury, they took blood tests and it was, in fact, a snakebite, their creatinine count was 1300.
The lack of interest or care that nurse practitioner gave was, in my opinion, deplorable. They did not even touch my child's foot, only looked and decided what their opinion was.
If I can, I’ll attach a photo to this and you can clearly see it’s a possible snake bite.
Hopefully in the future more care will be taken, even if someone doesn’t show the usual “symptoms” or see the cause, evidence should be used to rule out the cause. Yes? That’s what I would expect from a duty of care.
