We had a really lovely experience with the MGP team. This was my first pregnancy and birth. Our midwife, Mia, was a wonderful support throughout our pregnancy and birth journey. She was kind, gentle and very knowledgeable throughout the whole process. She was also incredible with supporting a midwifery student that I had chosen to follow my pregnancy. She took the time to teach and explain everything to the student and offered additional supports and resources when needed.
Mia was highly responsive to my texts, arranging appointments and following up on test results.
When it came to our birth, unfortunately the team was very short staffed, so we had a number of midwives who we hadn’t met before. Despite this, each of the midwives who supported us, Paula, Alex, and Elouise were incredible. Throughout my labour, they each closely followed my birth plan, offered lots of alternative options when my birth wasn’t going the way I had hoped and clearly and gently explained each decision and process that was occurring throughout the birth. Despite not having Mia present for most of my labour, the other midwives made me feel incredibly safe and supported. I was fortunate enough for Mia to be able to attend towards the end of my labour. Mia was an incredible support, even when we had to make the difficult decision to have a non elective c section.
We really appreciated the post natal appointments at our home following discharge from the hospital. Again, due to staffing issues we had another midwife carry out those appointments for us. Despite this, Jett, was also kind, gentle and supportive throughout and and did her best to accommodate us with visits at home despite us moving out of the catchment area a few weeks prior to the birth.
Overall, the staff at KEMH, particularly MGP, were incredible and we are so grateful for the support we received throughout a very difficult labour and birth.
