"My sister's care in the Alice Springs health system"

About: Alice Springs Hospital Australian Regional and Remote Community Services (ARRCS)

(as a relative),

My sister was moved by her family from Sydney to Alice Springs early in 2024 for her health needs as her advancing dementia meant she could no longer live alone. I am her enduring guardian.

Over the next twelve months, she had several admissions to Alice Springs Hospital, receiving care that was compassionate and exemplary and always thorough and professional.

Eighteen months ago she moved into residential aged care at Flynn Lodge. Again, the care and compassion and utmost respect with which my sister was treated, and the skill of all levels of staff in caring for someone with advanced dementia was very comforting to see. I would rate this aged care facility as deserving more than 5 stars.

Almost 2 weeks ago , my sister was admitted to Alice Springs Palliative Care Unit following brain trauma. I travelled to Alice Springs and visited her for 3 days last week in the PCU and experienced once again the very, very best in kindness and compassion and respect, both for my sister as the patient experiencing end of life and for myself as her family.

My sister's death was as gentle as the clinicians and staff could possibly make it, ensuring that she was comfortable at all times. She died very peacefully. I will be forever grateful to all these people, as my memories of my sister's death are filled with peace. Thank you. God bless you all.
