"Successful VBAC through MGP"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Hi! I had an elective C-section in July 2024 due to bub being breech (pregnancy care through KEMH via main hospital). For the second bub my GP recommended I attend the MGP program. We did some shared care during the first few months of pregnancy (to manage iron levels) and then fully relied on my midwife for my pregnancy care. My midwife was Mia and her buddy Lynda.

I had such a positive prenatal experience. I felt very looked after and the level of care was amazing. The appointments ran on time and sometimes had to reschedule which was easy to do via text message. I needed some paperwork for work travel and I was able to communicate directly with Mia rather than having to wait for my next appointment. I was encouraged to ask questions and was not pressured at all on the way of delivery (I knew I need to make a decision around 36 weeks). Following discussions with Mia, Lynda and the doctor at MGP I decided I did not want to be inducted, so I booked a C-section at 40 weeks and if bub came early I would attempt a VBAC.

I went into labour and unfortunately Mia was not working however Lynda was! I gave her a call in the morning and she noted bub was likely coming today and reconfirmed with me whether I wanted to attempt a VBAC, to which I said yes. I was in communication with Lynda later in the afternoon and we met at the admission clinic later that night. When I arrived into hospital Lynda informed me that I was 10cm and bub arrived shortly after. It was so great to have a familiar face in the room, Lynda knew me and what I wanted during birth and spoke to me throughout the whole process of what was happening and why. I had a great birth!

The home visits by Lynda and then Mia were easy and I was able to ask questions around personal care and wound healing without feeling any shame.

Thank you both Mia and Lynda for such a great second birth journey. It truly was amazing and I would not change anything! ❤️

Dear defenderfm66,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP).

I was pleased to read that through the recommendation from your GP you were able to access MGP and there you were met with the support of midwives Mia and Lynda. It was wonderful to read how their clear and supportive communication allowed you to navigate pregnancy, work and ongoing appointments whilst ensuring you were well informed prior to making any decisions.

I was delighted to read of your successful vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC)! It sounds like Lynda’s clear communication throughout the day and ongoing support during labour made for a positive birth experience. It was also wonderful to read that your post-natal visits with Mia and Lynda gave you the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns without a second thought.

Thank you again for sharing your positive journey and outcome. I will ensure your kind words are shared with Mia, Lynda and the wider MGP team.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

Kind regards,

Kirstie
