"MGP & Birthing at Karratha Health Campus"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

My experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) was absolutely incredible, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. After seeing so many positive reviews online, I self-referred at the start of my second trimester and was lucky enough to meet the absolute gem of a midwife, Laura, who guided me through my pregnancy, birth and the early days of motherhood. Although this was my second pregnancy and I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the process, I was so grateful for the level of care and support I received.

My first birthing experience in a large public metro hospital had been quite straightforward, so I hadn't expected the second time to be much different. However, the continuity of care and the opportunity to build a relationship with Laura made such a positive difference. Having a familiar face throughout my journey helped me feel comfortable, confident and safe. I felt genuinely listened to, respected and cared for as an individual, with my wishes and needs always taken into consideration. I also loved not having to repeat myself at every appointment, as Laura always knew where we had left off. Being able to text a general question and receive a response without needing an appointment was another small but incredibly valuable part of the experience.

Having Emi as my buddy midwife when Laura was on her well-deserved days off was also fantastic. Although I spent less time with Emi, I felt comfortable in her care after just one appointment. She was reassuring and even helped organise last-minute scans when it seemed almost impossible to get them sorted.

In the days leading up to the birth, Jesse joined my birthing team while learning the ropes of MGP. She slotted in seamlessly and made the effort to get to know us, despite knowing our time together would be brief.

On the day of the birth, Laura and Jesse just got to work and made everything feel so calm and manageable. Even in a moment of uncertainty, their knowledge, communication and reassuring presence helped ease my concerns. I never felt alone in navigating what was happening, and I trusted them to guide me through it. I particularly appreciated how consistently they included my partner in conversations throughout the day, making sure we both felt involved and supported.

It might seem like a collection of simple things, but together they made this experience far exceed what I had previously considered a good birth experience. Everything felt calm and under control, and I had such a strong sense of belonging that it was genuinely bittersweet when I realised our time together as a team was coming to an end.

The care didn't stop at birth, either. Having ongoing support in those early days with my baby provided so much reassurance and comfort as I navigated the transition into motherhood of a newborn. Knowing I still had support from people who already knew me and my journey made those early days feel that little bit less overwhelming.

Overall, MGP made my pregnancy, birth and early motherhood experience truly special. The personalised care, trust and connection I developed with my midwives and the team was invaluable, and I will always be grateful for the experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend MGP to anyone who has the opportunity to access it. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. An enormous thank you to Laura, Jesse, Emi and the incredible midwives and staff on the maternity ward who made this journey so positive and memorable!

Dear Babymama,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and congratulations on the arrival of your baby.

Your comments about not having to repeat your story, being able to ask a question between appointments and having a familiar face alongside you give a clear sense of what made this experience special. These may seem like small things, but they make a real difference to feeling understood and confident in your care.

Laura, Emi and Jesse each helped build that trust, and their calm approach meant you and your partner felt involved and supported throughout the birth. The sense of belonging you described, even as your time with the team came to an end, says a great deal about those relationships.

We regularly receive positive feedback about our MGP team, and I appreciate you sharing what made the difference for you. Having that support continue after birth, from people who already knew you, clearly brought reassurance as you settled into life with your baby.

I will share your thanks with Laura, Emi, Jesse and the maternity team, so they hear directly how much you valued their care and support.

Wishing you and your family all the best.
