"Positive birth experience at Busselton Hospital"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Maternity Unit, Childbirth & Parenting Education

(as the patient),

I had a fantastic experience delivering our first child at Busselton Hospital, under the care of the hospital’s midwives and GPOs.

Throughout labour, delivery, and recovery, I felt safe, supported, and respected. With the encouragement and guidance of the care team, I was able to achieve a low-intervention, physiological birth, which was my hope.

The midwives who assisted with my delivery were wonderful. They facilitated intermittent monitoring, allowing me to move around freely and work with my body throughout labour. Their encouragement, reassurance, and support were invaluable, especially during the pushing stage.

The postnatal care was also excellent. The team made us feel comfortable asking questions and seeking additional support whenever we needed it, which we greatly appreciated as nervous first-time parents. We were especially grateful for the time, patience, and guidance they provided in helping us establish breastfeeding despite some early challenges with latching.

The level of care, compassion, and kindness shown by the entire team was exceptional. We felt genuinely cared for as individuals and as a family, rather than just as another patient.

Thank you to all the midwives, GPOs, and the wider maternity team at Busselton Hospital for making the birth of our first child such a positive experience, with special thanks to Leisl, Ashley, Bron, Shahn, and Cassia. The care we received helped set us up for a successful start to breastfeeding and a smooth transition home. We are incredibly grateful for such a positive and memorable experience for our family.
