"Empathy and compassion in the Emergency Department"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I recently had a miscarriage and presented to the emergency department at Karratha Health Campus. The staff there were very empathetic and supportive. Although I had to present and wait for 3 consecutive days, I was always treated with a lot of compassion. They wrote me referrals for a scan and did some blood tests. The scan wasn’t booked for 2 days later as I wasn’t high enough priority. One of the Drs went to the medical imaging and was able to book me an appointment right away. I want to specially thank Dr Russell and nurse Georgie. They made me feel heard, supported and helped me to grieve my loss. They also help my plan for my next steps in the journey. Thank you so much. I hope I don’t have to see you again! You made an emotional and difficult time that little bit better.

Dear lynxrj78

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us during what must have been a very difficult and emotional time.

We are sorry for your loss and appreciate your kind words about the care you received at Karratha Health Campus. It is wonderful to hear that, despite having to return to the Emergency Department over several days, you were consistently treated with compassion, empathy and respect.

We are especially pleased to hear that Dr Russell and Nurse Georgie made you feel heard, supported and cared for throughout your experience. Providing not only clinical care but also emotional support during times of loss is incredibly important, and it is heartening to know they helped you navigate your next steps and made a challenging situation a little easier.

We will be delighted to share your feedback with Dr Russell, Nurse Georgie and the wider Emergency Department team. Your recognition of their kindness and dedication will mean a great deal to them.

Thank you again for sharing your story. We wish you all the very best for the future and hope that you continue to receive the support and care you need.

Warm regards

Yvette Crowhurst
