"Hospital experience"

About: Bairnsdale Hospital / Maternity Services

(as the patient),

Bairnsdale hospital staff supported me with my birth and post partum complications.

I felt heard, listened to, respected at each step.

Went into labor and I was supported to have a c section as was previously booked to have elective.

The GPS on call, midwives, anesthetist and team were all understanding, supportive, put additional measures in place due to PPH history and infection histories etc and I was well taken care of.

Post operation, my bleeding was checked regularly, I was supported to stay clean and not sit in blood etc.

I developed an infection post operation, I was believed, and treated promptly. I felt listened to, heard, believed and that it was taken seriously.

Negative would be food situation - hospital struggled to meet vegetarian needs, often not having a main meal, offering extra ice cream or cake instead of something healthy/ nutritional, other times vegetarian meal would be a meat meal instead. Recovering from birth/ surgery, I feel should have more access to healthy snacks, as well as adequate meals to support blood loss and recovery, breastfeeding through the night etc.

Dear memberhr98,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback. I'm so pleased to hear that you felt heard, respected and well supported by our maternity team throughout your birth and recovery.

I'm sorry that we missed the mark with your food experience during your stay. Recovering from childbirth, is a time when good nutrition is especially important.

We do offer a range of vegetarian meals and work closely with our Menu Monitors, Dietitians and Allied Health team to support individual dietary needs. Reading your feedback, it's clear we could have done a better job of connecting you with these options and ensuring you felt supported in your meal choices throughout your stay.

Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will help us improve both our communication and the way we support patients with specialised dietary requirements. We'll also continue exploring additional healthy snack options to further support our maternity patients.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. Feedback like yours helps us improve the care and service we provide to future patients. Wishing you and your family all the very best.

Thank you for sharing your feedback - Feedback is a gift. I'm sorry to hear that suitable vegetarian meals and healthy snacks weren’t always available during your stay. I understand how important good nutrition is when recovering from birth and surgery, and while breastfeeding. I appreciate your feedback and will share it with the team and look into how we continually do better.
