"Quality of care was not compromsied for holiday maker in Queensland."

About: Brisbane Northside Emergency Queensland Ambulance Service Rockhampton Base Hospital

(as the patient),

Whilst holidaying in Yeppoon I had a mild stroke. Something like this had never happened to me before, so I was very confused and scared particularly as I was not anywhere near my home or my own doctors. The Ambulance service arrived promptly and calmly reassured me and advised me of what was happening though they did not know at that stage that I had had a mild stroke. En route to Rockhampton Base Hospital we were stopped by an Emergency services vehicle to double check me as a further reassurance to myself that all was going to be ok.

On arrival at Rockhampton Base Hospital I was given a thorough examination by Dr Greg who was very exhaustive in his testing which I felt very reassured by. I believe that my various systems did not allow for a clear diagnosis of stroke and so I was sent to ICU for the night where once again I experienced reassuring and excellent care. I had to be transferred to Mater Hospital where the many tests revealed that I had indeed had a mild stroke. The doctor explained the mild severity of the stroke and my wonderful future prognosis.

I am so very thankful for the wonderful care and reassurance afforded to myself and my wife during the course of this otherwise very unsettling time. All health services seemed to communicate with one another from ambulance to Rockhampton Base Hospital to Mater Hospital and back home to my own gp to ensure that my quality of care was not compromised in any way.
