"Confused and conflicting information given by a Pain Management Clinic, Devonport, Tasmania."

About: Specialists in the Braddon Electoral District

(as the patient),

Visited a pain specialist in Devonport, told me one thing then when I went to book another appointment it seemed to me that everything I was told had changed, before they said they would bulk bill and that because of my condition it was not necessary to go to the pain clinic in Hobart as I had already been to a number of pain clinics and then said that the clinic would not be able to do anything for me.

I seem to remember that they said that there was a new pain killer on the market and they would let me know when it comes on the PBS as I am on a disability pension and cannot afford much.

I was given an email address and said if I wanted to know anything that to send it to the email address provided and it would get to the doctor. I was told to reduce the painkillers I was on at the moment but did not give me any alternative treatment to compensate, the doctor also never even examined me even though I had never seen that doctor before. Told me that they wanted to see me in three months, after that time I tried to make an appointment and got a replied email stating that I would have to pay in full for the consultation and that the doctor has said for me to go to the pain clinic in Hobart, which I was told that was out of the question in the earlier consultation for the reason that they would not be able to help me and also that I could not make the trip because of my condition and the expenses involved. It’s a nine hour round trip to Hobart and that's not including the clinic time, I emailed them asking why the change of mind and got no reply, we actually have emailed them numerous times with no reply, our Doctor has emailed them regarding the new pain medication and received no reply. On top of all this I emailed you regarding the Dept of Health and Human services making me drop my medication again with no advice on alternative treatment - https://www.patientopinion.org.au/opinions/59515 .

I am now at my wits end as my pain is intolerable and I can barely drive more than 20mins and cannot stand without pain for more than ten mins. They then told me to go to another of their pain specialist who travels to Burnie but that doctor will not bulk bill.

They will still not respond to my emails or my doctors.
