My parent was admitted to the Rehabilitation ward at Greenslopes Private Hospital mid 2014 with a fractured hip. They were in the ward for a number of weeks, and in my opinion, they received very poor care, including, I believe, being left on the toilet for over 50 minutes, apparently the nurse came in, turned off the buzzer and walked out and, as I understand, left my parent there.
It seemed that there was no communication from the staff to the family about any of my parent’s care and my parent did not know what was happening. The worst part was when my parent got home their GP discovered they had a large pressure sore on their buttocks that was full thickness to the bone!! Apparently the hospital did not even know my parent had it, let alone do anything about it, it seems obvious there were no skin integrity checks! I work in the healthcare industry, and pressure sores come about in hospital due to very poor care. I am appalled, which is a shame as I used to hold Greenslopes Private Hospital in high esteem.
