"Devastating lack of care at Wesley Hospital Brisbane"

About: The Wesley Hospital

(as a relative),

Two back operations for pain down the leg.

About to undergo third back operation.

Neurosurgeon reluctantly agrees to scan leg after Rehab physio says something wrong.

Orange sized sarcoma under knee - back operations not necessary.

Leg amputated.

Post op care appalling - epidural fails, no pain relief, it seems nursing staff are grads with no experience, takes 4 hrs for anaesthetist to show up.

New tumor detected in stump (or could be a DVT according to radiologist).

Specialist says tumor now in lymph nodes - reluctantly agrees to scan leg after two weeks of thinking no hope.

Tumor in stump is actually DVT - not in lymph nodes (didn't believe radiologist).

Off overseas - nothing more can be done here.

Back home today - going to RBH, never ever presenting to Wesley Hospital again. Prognosis one month - we all hope more.

Unfortunately the Wesley Hospital response was as expected. Decent and respectful patient care is an anomaly. To put this in perspective the patient received one phone call from the Wesley which was answered by a family member. There has been no commitment, explanation, apology to 'work through the issues' at all. NONE. The patient is receiving extraordinary, well communicated and organised care through RBH - how we wish we went there first. The patient is not in a position to answer calls, so Wesley, listen, give us a decent hearing through Patient Opinion. Then everyone can see what actions you are prepared to take to change.
