"Difficulty booking an ultrasound for mid trimester"

About: Box Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

My wife and I decided to have our baby at Box Hill Hospital. As part of it, we had our first midwife appointment and have been advised to book an ultrasound for mid trimester.

To my utter dismay, there wasn't a single slot available in the whole of the Eastern Health hospitals. This means we will have to again pay for the scanning from our pockets in spite of a Medicare card.

Surely some thing has to be done to address this situation after what I heard about Box Hill Hospital spending millions on new facilities and renovation.

Dear POAUG04

Many thanks for sharing your story on Patient Opinion but most sorry to read about the problems you are having with regard to accessing ultrasound services when you need them.

I will need to follow this up with the Ultrasound Department as a priority and will then provide you with an update and other options where this may be appropriate.

In the meantime, I am really sorry that you cannot access these services when we have advised you to complete them - I realise that we do need to do better than this.

Please be reassured that I will follow this up quickly and come back to you with some more information as soon as possible.

Kind regards and thank you, Alan Lilly

I sincerely apologise that you have had to go to these lengths to alert us to the issue. I am also pleased to advise you that we will undertake a fuller review of this process as your story has made us aware of a system problem.

Dear POAUG04

I was very pleased to hear that you have made contact with us and that your ultrasound has now been arranged.

Also, as you know POAUG04, following your feedback, a fuller review of access to ultrasound services during pregnancy is also underway so sharing your story has not only helped you; it has helped the rest of the community.

Thank you again and I trust that you will be in touch with Karen Fox if there are any further queries.

Kind regards, Alan Lilly
