"Was hospital discharge too early?"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital

(as a relative),

Two members of my family are currently patients at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I believe it's common knowledge in Adelaide at the moment that due to a surge in influenza cases most hospitals are at total capacity. Having said that my fiancé was informed this morning by a nurse that his father was going to be discharged this morning even though he presented at the ED only yesterday and was diagnosed with pneumonia, and other symptoms which, I believe, could become serious. The major hospitals in Adelaide announced that they would be discharging some patients early because of overcrowding but I cannot fathom how he can even be a consideration for discharge today. I think that it's completely and utterly negligent of the doctors if they do decide discharge him. As it is he is being kept in the treatment room that, I believe, has inadequate lighting, ventilation, and it appears, is being missed by the nurses and orderlies taking food orders.

My dad has been there for 2 months, what a nightmare. We are jumping up and down to get his pain medication which seems to us he is always due for when we ask.

I feel that he is not been treated correctly for one of his conditions, and it seems to me that his teeth have not been brushed once. He is constantly cold, in pain and confused. I resorted to putting a sign behind dads bed telling the nurses to tell dad who they are and what they were doing. He has dementia and a nurse asked him before administering his medication if he had any allergies. Are you kidding?

Just got a call from my fiance, even though his dad tested positive for influenza and his heart beat is still irregular they are going to discharge him.

Quite frankly I'm at my limit with the staff and what I feel is their substandard care at this hospital.
