"Not once did I feel like I had no idea what was happening or that I was overreacting"

About: Angliss Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child got sent to the emergency department with a high temperature I didn't think that it was going to be hospital worthy but as my GP said to go, off we went.

After being in the waiting room for all of five minutes my child decided to have a febrile convulsion. I went to the triage nurse (which was a lovely lady) and she rushed us straight through where I was a typical mother not knowing what was happening to my little child but the staff were cool, calm and collected, did what they had to do then took the time to explain to me what had happened and reassured me. Not once did I feel like I had no idea what was happening or that I was overreacting.

Once that was over we went to the pediatric short stay unit where once again they were lovely, with one stand out male nurse and doctor but I can't remember their names. we got the help we needed and my little child is much better now.

Dear POAUG06

Thank you so much for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. Stories like yours provide a great boost to our staff who can read and see what a difference they make in the day to day lives of our patients and their families. In turn, I have no doubt that these stories also give greater confidence to our community about the health care services in their neighbourhood so again, thank you.

I will be sure to pass on your feedback to our front-line staff and their managers and I will also post this story on Twitter so everyone who follows Eastern Health can also read and hear about the great work happening at the Angliss Hospital!

I am so glad to hear that you child is much better again POAUG06 and thank you again for sharing your story. It just goes to show how important it is to take the advice of your doctor and to be reassured also that your response was not an over-reaction.

Take care and thanks again for getting in touch, Alan Lilly
