"Advocating for the older patient"

Dear doctor

I am a person just like you,

why is treatments for me so few?

I may be older and I do want to live,

your skills and knowledge is yours to give.

I wish to die in a place of my choice,

Why oh why do you not hear my voice.

My body is worn but not to be discarded yet,

I want to live with no regrets.

Use your ability as you would for any person,

without your attention my condition may worsen.

The young for technology or research can be tried,

but that does not mean you should push me aside.

I deserve the correct medication and treatment today,

you have the learning my concerns to allay.

I want to live my life and not be condemned,

Non- treatment is not your choice to bring it to end.

Look at me, not my age but what I can do,

My future, what's left, is up to you.
