"I love my hospital"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as the patient),

I have been a patient of The Townsville Hospital for 10 years. For 8 of those years I was a non-compliant diabetic patient. I have been treated kindly and professionally. Staff are like a family to me, They make me a tea every time.

I believe the discharge service here is one of the best services around. They are professional and compassionate, day patients are made to feel so comfortable.

Up in the wards, each department I come across is magnificent, you know someone cares.

Both Sue the Occupational Therapist, and the doctor at the Diabetes Clinic are fantastic in my opinion.

I have friends in palliative care and they appear to me to feel at ease and the staff seem to look after the families and are very sensitive.

The multicultural doctors I have seen have been great.

From what I have seen, indigenous people are treated very well, the staff appear to be culturally sensitive and very inclusive.

The only slight issue is the people smoking at the front entrance. Maybe they need to be more strict on stopping this.

Dear PO-OCT13,

Thank you so very much for your kind words and feedback about our wonderful staff. 10 years is a long time to be a patient of our hospital and it is warming to know that your experiences have been ones that are positive and you have been treated with kindness, professionalism and compassion.

Our staff work really hard every day to help and care for people, provide them with information about their health care, respect and be sensitive to their specific choices and to comfort them in times of need. Sometimes it’s the little things that mean so much, even if it is as simple as a cup of tea.

I will be very happy to inform the staff from Diabetes, Occupational Therapy, Allied Health, Medicine, Palliative Care and the Day Units, as I know, your kind words will provide them with a real boost. Please know that I will inform our Director of Commercial Services of the smoking issues you have unfortunately experienced. Thank you for that feedback.

I am heartened to know that you have taken the time to share your story which celebrates the great work that goes on here every day! I love our hospital too!

Thank you once again PO-OCT13, I wish you all the very best for the future,

With kind regards, take care,

Julie Shepherd
