"Each nurse left a positive lasting impression on me"

About: Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went into the ER at Maroondah Hospital recently with a broken and dislocated wrist. The staff I met were amazing - the doctors and the nursing staff I simply could not fault.

Two days later I went into ER again at midnight as swelling and bruising had developed. I was kept in short stay and then admitted for 3 nights before undergoing surgery. On my first night in short stay a doctor told me the swelling was my fault for not elevating my arm, however I knew this was not true and felt the swelling and bruising seemed unusual, which I voiced. They decided to admit me and in the morning this same doctor accused me of not using my box sling that night, which was also untrue.

All of the other staff I encountered, in particular the nurses, from ER to the ward and through to the surgical nurses were just amazing. I have bipolar and was suffering severe claustrophobia staying in the hospital, however they were very understanding. I am so very impressed, and each nurse left a positive lasting impression on me.

Dear JimboJones

Many thanks for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. We really do appreciate you taking the time to do this because with stories like yours we are able to see what we do well and also, where we need to improve.

I will pass on your feedback to the doctors and the nursing staff at Maroondah Hospital.

Making long lasting impressions (which are positive) is just what we are aiming for but I can see that we didn't get that right on every occasion and so I will ask our Head Doctor in the ER to discuss this with the other doctors in the ER to ensure that this does not recur. I am sorry if we left you feeling upset in any way. I will also ask the Nurse Manager there to share your positive experience with the nursing staff too.

Thank you again for getting in touch and I hope that you are now well and truly on the mend.

Kind regards, Alan Lilly.
