"Who knows what is happening to me and who can tell me."

About: Box Hill Hospital Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently I was told I had abscess on my pelvis . Three days later told I would get a referral to Infectious Disease and orthopaedics. Another six days later I attended ED Maroondah, I was told I needed surgery for abscess, no need for infectious disease as no infection. On a couple of weeks later I was informed referral for orthopaedics sent back to Maroondah from Box Hill.. Another three days later received notification that appointment to see infectious disease but no referral to orthopedics. Rang back for inquiry / complaint, no one appeared to know who to transfer me to. But suggested I contact outpatients.

Dear Wally,

I am very sorry to hear that you have received such confusing information about your health and your health care. This is not good enough.

We are aware that we need to do better in managing follow up enquiries and we are working on this now. I know that won't resolve your issues immediately and so I would be most happy to follow this up for you if you would like to contact me directly. You could either call me on 98953259 or email me at gayle.smith@easternhealth.org.au.

I hope to hear from you soon.

With kind regards,

Gayle Smith
