"Staff gave me an amazing caesarean experience"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as the patient),

I had my first baby at the Townsville hospital and although the birth didn't go to plan and resulted in an emergency caesarean, I received great treatment from every department including birth suite, the maternity ward and ED.

After getting pregnant again I booked in with the Midwifery Group practice and saw a wonderful midwife named Helen. We went through all the options for the birth either VBAC or an elective caesarean. I was very unsure so I attended the VBAC class at the Townsville hospital. I found it very informative and was pleased that I attended but decided that because of my previous traumatic birth that I would have an elective caesarean.

I went through a birth plan with my midwife and decided that I wanted a natural caesarean. I also wanted delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin, unless of course there were any medical complications.

On the day of the surgery I arrived early at the hospital and was taken down to theatre. Danny's team were so great and made me feel instantly relaxed, I knew I was in good hands. Before I knew it I had my baby in my arms and got everything I asked for. The skin to skin was the best feeling in the world, I felt like I bonded with my baby instantly and I cannot thank the doctors enough for giving me those special and precious moments. It made it feel so much more of a natural rather than clinical process.

I spent the next four days on the maternity ward and was cared for by the most wonderful midwives. They were so helpful, kind, caring, considerate and funny. Also, the maternity ward is lovely, fresh and always kept so clean. I really enjoyed my stay at the hospital.

My MGP midwife gave me great postnatal care at home for the first 6 weeks. She was so helpful and gave such great advice, she was such a wonderful midwife and if I ever get pregnant again I will be contacting her to follow me.

I really believe the MGP staff and the staff at the Townsville hospital that i encountered deserve medals. They are so dedicated, highly skilled, professional and gave me an amazing experience. I will be forever thankful to them all.

Thanks everyone, keep up the great work!

Dear Happy patient 2015,

Congratulations on the birth of you baby! How wonderful it was to read about your amazing experience and I thank you so much for sharing your story.

I will be thrilled to share your lovely feedback with the Directors of Health and Wellbeing, Medical Services and Commercial Departments who will ensure the staff in birth suite, the maternity ward and ED are informed. The Nursing Directors will be very keen to ensure that the midwives from the Maternity Group Practice, VBAC class and Danny's team and medical staff are informed of your story. We are very fortunate to have such a lovely maternity ward and I agree, our Operational Support Staff do a great job of keeping the environment fresh and clean, please know that your feedback will be delivered to their manager.

Once again, thank you so very much for your story and encouraging feedback – it’s nice to know that your experience was such a positive one, bought about through the dedication, skills and professionalism of our hard working staff. Providing them with such great feedback will put a smile on many faces I’m sure.

I would really like to make sure Danny’s team personally receives your words of appreciation. To enable me to pass your comments on I would be grateful if you could please contact staff within our Patient Liaison Service to ensure we acknowledge the right staff members.
