"I never once felt scared and I was very comforted throughout the whole ordeal"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital Fitzroy Crossing Hospital Royal Flying Doctor Service

(as the patient),

I presented myself to the front desk at Fitzroy Crossing Hospital with pain that was getting worse in my chest and left arm. Two nurses helped me to a wheelchair and took me straight to the emergency room. Within what seemed to be seconds there was a large team of nurses and doctors in the room all doing different jobs.

I had one nurse holding my hand comforting me as well as a second nurse explaining what was going on medically. Next thing I know I was awake and there was a team resuscitating me. The nurse that was holding my hand before was back reassuring me everything was ok and asking me questions to see if I knew what was going on, I did.

The pain was getting worse again next thing I open my eyes just as the defibrillator went off. Everyone was straight back to my side, comforting me.

A big heart felt thank you to a very professional and caring team of doctors and nurses at the Fitzroy Crossing Hospital.

Later that day I was airlifted from FX Hospital to Perth's Fiona Stanley via the Royal Flying Doctors. This took 6.5 hrs. The RFDS nurse did not leave my side. To the small team of nurse, doctor and pilot, thank you.

I was in Fiona Stanley for 3 nights, again my care was by a very professional caring team of nurses and doctors.

Thank you to all that was involved with my cardiac arrest. I never once felt scared and I was very comforted throughout the whole ordeal.

Dear FX Cardiac

What a frightening ordeal for you, yet a relieved and safe outcome!

It is rewarding to hear how the nurses and staff worked as a strong, supportive and professional team to get you through this. It was especially encourageing you remembered the explanation of what was happening around you. This is very helpful and strong feedback to remind staff that although the patient is in a critical state, they can remember what the nurses and doctors are saying and doing around them.We will pass on your feedback and genuinue gratitude to the staff and teams involved.

Thankyou for sharing your story and all the very best for a safe and strong recovery

Kind regards

Maureen Crowther
