"I have never felt like a number but a patient"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer earlier this year. From my first appointments with the Gynaecologists to then seeing the Gyny Oncologists from Brisbane, to the nursing staff (especially Judie), to the theatre staff and the Surg 1 staff. I have had amazing service and treatment. I have never felt like a number but a patient. Everyone has been so caring and thoughtful and always calling me to keep me updated and just to see how I am going. I can't thank them all enough, everyone has been amazing even the lovely ladies on the desk in women and children's.

Dear Neena,

Thank you for so much sharing your story so we can read about how our staff made you feel like a patient and not just a number. Knowing that you have been cared for with such thoughtfulness is uplifting.

From reading your story, it looks as if you have been on a difficult journey with your health and I’m sure at times it must have been quite worrying for you, so learning that your care and treatment has been amazing is heart-warming as I am sure this would have given you some comfort.

Please know that I will have great delight in providing your feedback to the Managers of the departments of Health & Wellbeing and Surgical Services who will share your story with the teams who cared for you.

Thank you again and I wish you all the very best for the future Neena, please take care of yourself,

With warm regards,

Julie Shepherd

Thanks Julie, I really can't thank everyone enough, I felt like I was the only patient they were caring for, and that they actually did care, not just doing their job. So many amazing caring staff. We are very lucky!
