"Accident and Emergency"

About: Box Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

I am a lady in my 60's who attended Emergency this afternoon. I was in a great deal of pain with an injured ankle. I was sent to fast track, not even offered pain relief. When I got to fast track (what a joke, "slow track") there were 7 people already there who had been waiting over 3 hours. I waited over 45 minutes and no one went in, so I left. It is a disgrace with new facilities but it seems the same old bad treatment. I am still in pain but at least had meds and can put my foot up.

Dear Grandma

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. I am so sorry that you left without being seen further in the "fast track" area. Yesterday, we had almost 200 patients present to our Emergency Department at Box Hill Hospital so it was a day of high demand for our emergency services. However, that does not excuse being advised as to the approximate waiting time and not being given medication to reduce your pain and discomfort - I am really sorry to read about that. I hope that you have since sought treatment but if you still need to, you can of course consult your GP, come back to the Emergency Department or if you do not have a GP, then there is a GP clinic in Arnold Street almost opposite the main entrance of the Hospital.

I am sorry grandma that we have let you down at this time and if you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact our Centre for Patient Experience on 1800 327 837.

Kind regards, Alan Lilly
