"Visit to Maroondah Emergency Department."

About: Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I just wanted to acknowledge the truly wonderful staff who looked after us from the minute we entered to the time we left. I was with my daughter who had severe abdominal cramps and nausea. Nurse Susan made her feel totally at ease and was so kind and sweet. Nurse Matt also made sure we were comfortable and warm. Special mention to Dr Craig who was so thorough and made her feel like my daughter was as important as the next patient. He assured her that she was welcome back should the pains start again. I work for Eastern Health and have to say I am very proud to be a part of this type of care. I didn't want to bother the already very busy staff, but a public tea station would have been very welcome as we were there for 6 hours.

Dear Jane

Many thanks for sharing your feedback on Patient Opinion and I so appreciate you taking the time to do this at this busy time of the year.

I will have great pleasure in passing this onto the staff and also sharing this with the management team at Maroondah Hospital. I will also make sure that we give a special mention to Nurses Susan and Matt and Doctor Craig - they'll be chuffed no doubt to read your feedback.

I hope that your daughter is back to full health now and that the pains have subsided in time for the Christmas fun and festivities.

Thanks again Jane and so glad to hear that you are proud to be part of Eastern Health - I am too.

PS - thanks for your suggestion regarding the tea station, I will pass this on as well for review.

Merry Christmas and best wishes, Alan Lilly

Dear Jane

By way of closing the loop on this story and the agreed action, I wanted to to let you know that this has been reviewed by the Emergency Department management team. They have identified that this would not be possible in the waiting room due to risks that it would pose to children and mental health clients with the hot water.

However, we have confirmed that there is a coffee, tea and hot chocolate machine that the kiosk looks after so hot drinks can be purchased in the waiting room. The EDcare volunteers are also available from 0900hrs to midnight and they can and do also make beverages if requested and permitted for the patient whilst in ED. Visitors have no restrictions.

Thanks again for sharing your story on Patient Opinion and I do hope that you can see that your feedback has indeed prompted a review by the local team.

Kind regards and thanks, Alan Lilly.
