Tonight we visited Maroondah Hospital after my son spilt his head open playing backyard cricket (he did hit a six so he'd want that noted! ! )
There was enormous amount of blood so I was a bit shaken up but totally at ease once I entered your hospital and the professionals who work for you.
The muscly young man on triage at 9pm tonight was superb (he will love being described like that but I didn't get his name! ) he joked with my son and totally made us feel at ease. Jodi on reception was also gorgeous and very, very professional checked in with me before escorting my ex husband to the treatment room (impressive protocol) she was so warm and friendly.
A young doctor with an English accent popped in to get supplies from the treatment room and instead of just walking straight out after getting them he took the time to ask my son how he hurt this head then teased him about barracking for Liverpool. All these seemingly small gestures do make a huge difference - a little chat here and a teasing and a joke make people feel valued and special.
Dr Martin was very professional and genuinely cared and spent ages ensuring my son could avoid the pain of stitches and instead he diligently wove his magic with tweezers, glue and a whole lot of patience. He kept telling my son he was very brave which really helped. He was extremely thorough re head injury info and gave me info to take home.
Thank you for making my son’s first emergency hospital experience a positive one - he summed it up magnificently when we got to the car and he said "those people there are my new friends mummy".
"Fantastic caring service at Maroondah Hospital"
