"Letter of Praise and thanks for the staff of CCU, Geelong Private Hospital."

I was a patient admitted to the Geelong Private Hospital Critical Care Unit (CCU) to be treated for sudden changed heart conditions. I was admitted in early December after utilising the Critical Care Unit’s very effective Priority Admission Service (PAS). After being placed in Room 8, I was tended to by a first year placement nurse ‘Jo’ and shortly thereafter I met the CCU Unit Manager Mel who supervised my admission and patient monitoring with her staff. I was discharged a few days later.

During this time my observations of the staff who attended me and their operation of the CCU saw the displays of complete professionalism and dedication of the highly trained and skilled staff as they went about their functions with a sense of balanced urgency, efficiency and control. At times my condition changed and required sudden attention, I felt the nursing staff and supervisory response was second to none, while the staff also had to contend with a heavy and busy workload.

I was so completely impressed by the management skills and leadership style of Mel which reflected wonderful teamwork, communication, and commitment to task objectives, by her nursing team members throughout the CCU/ICU and CATH LAB. I highly commend you Mel for your great performance. (You have the outstanding dedication award nomination from me).

I would also like to highly commend the skill and expertise of Martina who took the time to communicate finer details of the ECG filter printouts and monitor that I was keenly interested in which gave me great comfort and knowledge and understanding for my own situation. You are inspirational.

The night shift nurses Gigi, Maria and particularly Mary who maintained a constant vigil and close support monitoring of my changing condition – I thank you so much

The nurses Katelyn, Marisse, Alex, Clayton, Jo, Dwayne and Michael and other nursing and support staff whose names I can’t recall – thank you all so much and congratulations for a job well done. You are a Great Team.
