About: The Townsville Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has had problems with his ears since he was born. It is causing problems with his speech and therefore interfering with his learning. I have had doctors referring him for surgery for years and I have heard nothing back! I even went as far as booking him in privately. The day before his surgery was due to take place the private hospital rang and told me that my private health didn't cover it anymore as I did not have hospital cover. Everything was paid for and ready to go! I didn't have nearly $3000 to get him in the next day so I had to cancel the surgery. Since then I have had him referred by two separate doctors again to The Townsville Hospital and have heard absolutely nothing back! I was hoping to have it fixed before he started school but that didn't happen! I'm concerned that his hearing will effect his learning and I just want to give my child the best possible chance at his education like any other child! Please help me find out why we haven't been contacted about surgery yet after nearly 1.5 years of waiting?

Dear Concerned mama,

Thank you for telling us your story on Patient Opinion; I am sorry to read that you have waited so long for a response regards to your son’s surgery.

I understand this must be really stressful and worrying for you, as it is your child’s development and wellbeing that is of the greatest concern to any parent.

It is for this reason, Concerned mama, that we would like the opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail so that we can investigate the issues you have raised. I encourage you to please contact staff in our Patient Liaison Service on 44331074 to discuss your concerns further.

Once again, I thank you for sharing your story and I wish you and your child all the very best for the future.

Kind regards,

Julie Shepherd
